The perks of having a loving and thoughtful husband is that he knows all my favorite things, including my favorite artists. While I love Andy Grammer, I would never splurge on tickets to a live concert and my husband knows this about me which is why he surprised me with not only tickets to the concert but VIP backstage passes. The concert was in Indianapolis, which is only about 90 minutes away from our new Indiana home.

The concert was awesome with a wholesome, down to earth vibe. I was so close to the stage I could touch it. Being surrounded by other people who loved Andy’s work as much as I did was really cool and I was able to meet some good people in between the VIP meet and greet session and the concert.

Here I am star struck over getting to see one of my favorite artists perform up-close

I’m not one to keep up with upcoming artists in music, film, or any industry. It is common for me to “discover” an artist or a song that is considered “old news” to the rest of the world. So while Andy Grammer was officially discovered in 2009, I didn’t discover him until 2019 and have since then been hooked. I find his lyrics relatable, down to earth and original. What’s appealing to me about his work is how real it is. It’s obvious to me that Andy writes his lyrics from the heart and while I don’t know him personally (although I did get to meet him face-to-face at the meet and greet!), I would peg him as a naturally happy-go-lucky dude and one of the “good guys”. How he creates a sunny mix of folk and pop is sheer genius and because of this, Andy has at least one song on every single one of my playlists. In response to his 2011 album, Andy Grammer, he stated:

“My ultimate goal is to try to be real. It just so happens that I’m usually more happy than sad when I’m writing. And in general I think that life is pretty great, and it’s cool to be here, so that comes through in my music. I don’t have a dismal outlook, but I don’t aim to make positive music. It’s just what I am.”

I am naturally attracted to happy people, so it makes sense I would also enjoy happy music. A happy person creating and singing happy lyrics with a gorgeous voice and peppy music is right up my ally, and I honestly can’t get enough of Andy Grammer. I also admire his humble beginning as a busker on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

Andy Grammer continues to be one of my all time favorite secular artists and I wouldn’t turn down another opportune to attend one of his concerts. He truly is a talented man and is one of the few artists I follow for upcoming music so I can listen the second a new album or single is released. Lyrics have always been important for me in songs and given he writes all of his songs, you can tell he writes from his heart. Some favorite songs of mine include:

  • A Friend Like You
  • Fine by Me
  • Forever
  • Love Myself
  • Don’t Give Up on Me
  • It Feels Good To Be Me
  • Saved my Life

UPDATE 12.26.2022: I need to add to the list!

  • Good Company (listen to this one!)
  • Good In Me (spoke to my heart so much!)
  • I Found You
  • Co-pilot
  • Love Myself (why is it so hard to say I love you to ourselves?).

Any other Andy Grammer fans out there? I’d love to know your favorite song and why you like it!
