A Sunset Dinner Cruise on Alabama’s Largest Lake
Last updated: July 22, 2023
At 38,000 acres, Guntersville Lake is Alabama’s largest. It’s elevation is 594 feet and offers 890 miles of shoreline! We took a day trip and explore all Guntersville had to offer… both Harbor City (the fancy marina) and the downtown district. We ended the day with Lake and River Fun escorting us across the waters to watch the orange glow of the sun dip down behind the mountains.
The food was from a local place and included, chicken, barbecue, potato salad, rolls and baked beans. Everything was really yummy… no complaints here! Afterward we settled in with fingers crossed in hopes of seeing the sunset. Since the day was stormy and cloudy, we were leery, but right as it started setting, the clouds rolled away and we were able to enjoy its beauty. Photos can’t do it justice, but enjoy nonetheless!
We passed a beautiful lighthouse… the biggest one I have ever seen. The Captain informed us that a man had bought it for his daughter for a wedding gift but she’d decided she didn’t want to live there so it had sat vacant for a very long time. However, it seems there are plans to make it a bed and breakfast soon so I’ll be keeping an eye out since I’m slightly obsessed with lighthouse and it would be ah-mazing to stay at one!
…and now more sunset photos!
As we docked, City Harbor was beautifully lit up against the night sky.
I am very much looking forward to my hometown’s project to develop a dining and shopping along the Tennessee River that will only be 10 minutes away from my house! It’s no wonder this area was voted the best place to live in America… it’s truly wonderful and I enjoy it immensely.
