When I learned I was only 11 miles from Indiana’s highest point, I quickly researched to find out the details. How long would it take us? How strenuous would it be? I had to double check another source when I saw the elevation was only 1,255 feet. Are they sure that’s the highest point??? Well, huh. Sure enough it is.

From a Tennessee girl who’s climbed the highest elevation point in Tennessee at 6,643 feet, reaching Indiana’s highest was a breeze. Officially established in 1936 and affectionally known as Hoosier Hill, the leisurely stroll didn’t take us long to land at the cute summit. At 1,255 feet, we were on top of the Indiana world, and we didn’t even break a sweat.

One at the the summit, you’ll find a rock engraved with the stats of the location, along with a mailbox that contains a guestbook to sign, a fire pit, and a picnic table. We, of course, all signed the guestbook.

My dad pointing out his Tennessee hometown sticker we ironically found on the mailbox.

So that’s the story of the day me and my family climbed to the highest point in Indiana. The story is short, just like the climb. 😄 My interest has now been piqued to research the highest points in each state. Believe it or not, Indiana is only # 44. There are six more states with even lower elevations, and just for the sake of checking them off, I’ve added “Climb to the highest elevation in each state” to my bucket list. So many things… so little time.

More to come! I’m inspired to blog about my climbs in Tennessee to the highest and third highest mountains. I would love to know the highest elevation you’ve climbed!
