Now that we are settled in Indiana, I’m starting to explore and have discovered that we are a two minute walk to Indians longest recreational trail, the Cardinal Greenway! This is exciting for a few reasons:

  • Two minutes from my house
  • Paved (the whole way!)
  • Well maintained
  • Clean
  • Safe
  • Beautiful: bridges, trees, and even a waterfall!
  • You can rollerblade, walk, jog or ride bikes
  • It’s 62 miles long (a pretty awesome biking adventure)

It was originally created in 1901 as train tracks but in 1998, ten miles of walking trail were opened. They continued to pave over the tracks a little at a time until 2011 when it was finally completed, thus earning the name “rail trail”. The trail takes its name from the Cardinal, the passenger train that once regularly ran the route.

It’s such an awesome walking trail; honestly my favorite one to date. Walking it over the weekend and seeing all the fall leaves was really magnificent… really; I was awestruck by the trails beauty. At this time of year, it’s like a magical autumn wonderland.

The Greenway is hands down my favorite thing about where I live. If you’re ever in the area we will take a stroll from my driveway to a waterfall taking The Greenway. I take advantage of this trail most days with my two dogs and you can see why from the photos below… it’s just beautiful and I can’t get enough.

As you can see, I couldn’t help myself from taking advantage of the autumn scenery by taking some fall photos of us… I only wish we would have had someone with us to get some photos together, but it was all very impromptu, so we just went with it.

Fall is proof that change is beautiful 🍁

The city hosts annual bike rides, 5k marathons, walkathons and even an bikeTOURberfest. While this is quite popular, I can’t say it’s ever been crowded. Kris and I will walk for a mile before we see another person.

A Walk to Thistlethwaite Falls (10/15/2022)

The next weekend, we walked to the waterfall, and although we had walked there prior to the leaves changing in the past, it was quite a different view to see the fall surrounded by the autumn colors.

So, really, come visit in the fall and enjoy God’s handiwork close up as you stroll through a fall wonderland!
