Hueston Woods State Park: Sycamore Trail

During my recent trip to Hueston Woods State Park, I completed Cedar Falls Trail but wanted more so I continued on and added the .07 mile Sycamore Trail loop to enjoy a mile and a half of forest therapy.

What really stood out on this hike was a bald eagles nest! I have never seen one so close and I’m still not over how incredibly large they are! This was the closest we could get while staying on the trail but it would be pretty cool to hang out at this site and wait for the bald eagle to come by.

This hike was even easier than Cedar Falls but still a good chance to get some fresh air and I enjoyed watching the dogs enjoy themselves so much. They were really happy!

The hike was well marked with white markers to help guide you along the way. Since this trail is a loop, these markers are on both sides of the trees.

Below is the fruit from an Osage Orange tree. It’s not edible by humans and animals rarely forage it outside of deer or squirrels eating it’s small seeds. It looks like someone had some seeds before we arrived.

I am anxiously waiting to go back but have some other adventures lined up so it will take me a few weeks before I’m able to complete the other six trails. I hope all my people from the south are taking advantage of the excellent hiking weather and are getting out there and enjoying our beautiful earth!
